Cedar Mesa, Utah
This amazing Indian cave is set right into the side of precipitous cliff. The ceilings inside are blackened from the smoke of a thousand open fires, and I could feel the spirit of the Navajo all around me. The pattern of rocks on the roof has the appearance of an approaching thunderstorm, helping to create a feeling of movement. The overcast day allowed me to even out the contrasting midday light, and this image perfectly conveys the powerful tribal presence I felt.
