Putting together my latest book, Equation of Time, was a completely emotional experience – sifting through countless photographs brought me back to every beautiful moment I have ever captured. When I came across this transparency, it stopped me dead in my tracks. Taken almost two decades ago, when I faced the many challenges and struggles of a starving artist, I did not have the means to explore its potential. Originally released as a colorful sunrise shot, my heart suddenly skipped a beat as I realized I could now reintroduce this stunningly simplistic vision in a profound, black & white format. The results reveal such incredibly crisp definition – from the horizontal grooves in the rugged wooden jetty, to the contoured lines in the wet sand. Only a thin crease marks where the ocean ends and the atmosphere begins – as if Mother Nature is folding the sky back towards the beach. This image gives me a total sensory experience – I am right there, feeling the shoreline under my feet and absorbing the tranquility of Mother Nature.
